Wales-Darby: All systems ‘Green’

By Z

Speaking of green, here’s a match made in sustainability heaven.

We already knew Wales-Darby, best friend of anyone in the HVAC or plumbing trades, wants to save the world. Witness the firm’s multipurpose, multidimensional Energy Learning Center, a glittering showcase at Wales-Darby’s Islandia headquarters touting eco-conscious, energy-efficient HVAC and plumbing alternatives. Or its commitment to the New York Department of Transportation’s Clean Air New York campaign, joining such power players as IBM and BAE Systems on a mission to lower the state’s ozone levels.

Efforts like these have caught the eye of the Green Mechanical Council, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit dedicated to educating contractors, field technicians and industry leaders about environmentally healthy residential and commercial mechanical systems.

In July, Wales-Darby hosted the inaugural meeting of the Green Island Coalition, which engages Island lawmakers, employment-union representatives and various industrial concerns in a meaningful dialogue with GreenMech about numerous Island-based projects and how to keep them ecologically sound. And this week, GreenMech officially recognized Wales-Darby as its newest member, joining dozens of like-minded organizations on the council’s quest for “economy and efficiency, one mechanical system at a time.”

“The Green Mechanical Council appreciates the support of Wales-Darby,” GreenMech noted in a release announcing the firm’s newly minted membership. “With their support, we are able to further the educational goals of our organization.”

That about sums up Wales-Darby’s take as well, according to President Brian Darby: “We’re very excited to join the Green Mechanical Council, whose goals are exactly in line with our dedication to smarter, cleaner and more cost-efficient energy usage.”
